This video was intended as opening video for the inauguration of the new star projector "Universarium VIII" at the Planetarium Münster in 1998. The animation was created by extrusion of the colors of the photo of the new projector into height values. The flight goes over the so generated "terrain" ...
This was my very first animation created with Cinema4D ... and before anyone complains why there is the spaceship "Sol" from the successful German book series "Perry Rhodan" which has nothing serieous to do with astronomy and planetaria: The Planetarium Münster was always open-minded about science fiction. In fact it was the first Planetarium worldwide hosting a Star Trek Convention solely organized by fans. About the Plantarium:
The Planetarium Münster was opened on November 13th, 1981. It has a 20 meter ( 65 ft) diameter dome and offers space for about 260 people.
After 17 years of operation, 1998 marked a change in the central planetarium projection. The dumbbell-shaped old star projector was removed and as replacement the new star projector "Universarium model VIII" of the company Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH got installed. This device consists of a central sphere for the projection of the fixed stars, the so-called star ball, and eight projectors standing next to the planets of the solar system. By using fiber optics, these project a much brighter and realistic replica of the nightsky with over 9000 stars visible. Unlike before, the new projector can not only be controlled manually, but also programmed by a computer. The computer control allows diverse representations of the night sky, a better synchronization between visual and acoustic performances, and a consistent quality of the planetarium programs.
The planetarium was reopened on August 25th 1998 with the following installed:
- Zeiss star projector "Universarium model VIII"
- Laser projection system of the company Tarm / SollingerDSP
- 2 video projectors for displaying movies and computer animations
- 24 slide projectors coupled to project panoramic views
- 12 coupled "AllSky" slide projectors for displaying large images over the entire planetarium dome
- 13 slide projectors for displaying still images at different points in the planetarium sky

Dieses Video war als Eröffnungsvideo nach dem Umbau 1998 und zur Einweihung des neuen Sternenprojektors "Universarium VIII" gedacht. Die Animation wurde erstellt, indem die Farben des Foto von dem neuen Projektor in Höhenwerte extrudiert wurden. Die so generierte "Landschaft" wurde überflogen ...
Dies war meine allererste Animation mit Cinema4D und ist 1998 entstanden ... und bevor jemand meckert, was denn das Raumschiff "Sol" aus der erfolgreichen, deutschen Heftserie "Perry Rhodan" mit astronomie und Planetarien zu tun hat: Das Planetarium Münster war immer schon auch der Science-Fiction gegenüber aufgeschlossen. So fand die allererste, nur von Fans organisierte Star Trek Convention "PlanetCon" 1994 in einem Planetarium statt - daher auch der Name (abgeleitet von Planetariumsconvention). Das Planetarium Münster wurde bereits am 13. November 1981 eröffnet. Es gilt mit 20 Metern Kuppeldurchmesser als Großplanetarium und bietet ca. 260 Menschen Platz. Das Planetarium ist Teil des LWL-Museum für Naturkunde.
Nach 17 Betriebsjahren erfolgte 1998 ein Wechsel des zentralen Planetariumsprojektors. Der hantelförmige alte Sternenprojektor wurde ausgebaut, stattdessen wurde im Planetarium der neue Sternenprojektor „Universarium Modell VIII“ der Firma Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH installiert. Dieses Gerät besteht aus einer zentralen Kugel zur Projektion der Fixsterne, dem so genannten Starball, und acht daneben stehenden Projektoren für die Planeten des Sonnensystems. Durch Einsatz von Glasfaseroptik sind diese neuen Projektoren wesentlich lichtstärker und liefern eine viel naturgetreuere Nachbildung des Sternenhimmels als es vorher möglich war. Anders als bisher kann der neue Projektor nicht nur manuell, sondern auch programmiert durch einen Computer gesteuert werden. Die Computersteuerung ermöglicht vielfältigere Darstellungen am Sternenhimmel, eine bessere Synchronisation zwischen visuellen und akustischen Darbietungen, und eine gleichbleibende Qualität der Planetariumsprogramme.
Das Planetarium wurde am 25.08.1998 nach dem Umbau mit folgender Technik wieder eröffnet:
- Sternenprojektor Zeiss „Universarium Modell VIII“
- Laserprojektionsanlage der Firma Tarm / SollingerDSP
- 2 Videoprojektoren zur Einblendung von Filmen und Computeranimationen
- 24 gekoppelte Diaprojektoren zur Darstellung von Panorama-Ansichten
- 12 gekoppelte „Allsky“-Diaprojektoren zur Einblendung übergroßer Bilder über die gesamte Planetariumskuppel
- 13 Diaprojektoren zur Einblendung von Einzelbildern an unterschiedlichen Stellen des Planetariumshimmels
